Electrical Learning Lab

Free interactive lessons on the fundamentals behind electrical work. Change the values, flip the switches and watch what the circuit does. No sign-up needed.

Lessons

  1. Ohm's Law: Voltage, Current and Resistance. Change the voltage and resistance on a working circuit and watch the current respond. Then use V = I × R the way it gets used in the field. About 12 minutes.
  2. Series and Parallel Circuits. Wire the same three lamps two ways, then burn one out, short one and overload the breaker. See why buildings are wired in parallel. About 15 minutes.
  3. How Three-Way Switches Work. Flip two switches and watch one light. Follow the travelers, switch between a schematic and a hallway view, and track down a wiring mistake. About 14 minutes.

How the lab works

Each lesson pairs a plain explanation with a working circuit you can change. Move the voltage or flip a switch and the readings respond the way the math says they should.

The lab is written for apprentices getting ready for class and for electricians brushing up on theory. Worked examples show every step, and each lesson ends with a short quiz that explains its answers.

Progress is kept on your own phone or computer. There is no account to make and nothing to install.

  • Change real values. Move the voltage, resistance and switches, and the readings follow the same math electricians use.
  • Tap any part. Every drawing has a parts list. Tap a part to see what it does and where you meet it in the field.
  • Take the challenges. Short hands-on problems check your answer the moment you make it, with the working shown.
  • Check yourself. Each lesson ends with a five-question quiz. Wrong answers explain themselves so you learn from them.

Before you start

Code notes in the lessons carry a "Check your local code" tag, because requirements depend on the NEC edition your jurisdiction has adopted and on local amendments.

Lessons are free study material. Finishing one does not certify a skill, count toward a license or replace hands-on training under qualified supervision.
