When you replace your hardware consider using only lithium batteries in them.  Many of us have heard the constant chirp of a slowly, going dead smoke alarm battery, but if you use lithium batteries, the battery should last as long as the device itself –ultimately serving as a reminder to change out the device.

Another benefit to using lithium batteries is that they are recyclable versus winding up in a landfill like traditional alkaline batteries.  Over the span of a lithium battery’s life, you may have purchased upwards of 15 to 20 alkaline batteries, thus producing more landfill waste.
